ALOHA to FUKUYAMA, JAPAN
MAUI COUNTY'S 23rd SISTER CITY!

On Feburary 11, 2008, Resolution No. 08-10, the Maui County City Council votes YES to adding Fukuyama, Japan as a most welcome new Maui County Sister City. Over the years, there has been ongoing interest between our county and Fukuyama. In September, 2007, Mayor Akira Hade of Fukuyama, Japan and delegation were joined by Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares, Lt. Gov. James “Duke” Aiona and Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann in the annual Maui County State Fair.

For an official ceremonial sister cities welcome, Mayor Tavares will lead a Maui delegation to Fukuyama, Japan for their famous Rose Festival in May 2008.
