Maui County Sister Cities Highlight

A 14-day goodwill visit to the Republic of the Philippines, led by Mayor Arakawa in 2006.

Maui County Mayor, Alan Arakawa, accompanied by 102 delegates from Maui County, visited member cities of the Maui County Sister Cities program in the Ilocos region. The Maui County Sister Cities 2006 delegation included First Lady Ann Arakawa, Maui County Department of Housing & Human Concerns' Deputy Director Herman Andaya, Maui Filipino Community Council President Fred Dagdag, Mrs. Maui Filipina 2006 Myrna Baggao Breen, and Mrs. Sakada International 2006 Candidate Angelina Deocares.

Among Maui sister cities visited were the municipalities of Sarrat and Bacarra in Ilocos Norte, and Cabugao and Santa in Ilocos Sur, and concluded with a visit to Tagaytay and Manila where the entourage visited with Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The goodwill visit reinforced the strong historic, cultural and economic ties as well as to reaffirm the friendship, goodwill and diplomatic relationship between Maui County and its Sister Cities in the Philippines.
